Following the federal government’s ‘Growth Enhancement Scheme’, the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers to dry season farmers.
State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Isah at the flag off ceremony in Jalingo said the gesture was to boost agricultural production and ensure food security in the state.
Musa said the federal government had extended the distribution exercise by two weeks to enable farmers especially in crisis communities to have access to the commodity.
He urged beneficiaries to make maximum use of the fertilizers to turn around their fortunes and promote economic growth of the state and the country at large.
State Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar on the occasion appealed to the people of the state to shun violence at all times to pave way for development.
Umar said if crisis that engulfed the southern and central parts of the state had not happened the money spent for additional fertilizer would have been put to other developmental issues.
